We’ve done the vetting - so you can just breathe.
You were never meant to sleep in chemicals, mold or noise.
When we travel, I have to pack more than clothes—I bring a mattress protector, my own sheets, towels, even my own air filter… because most places aren’t safe. One time, we planned a peaceful trip to Bend, but as soon as we opened the door, the smell of bleach & toxic chemicals hit us so hard we had to turn around and drive all the way back to Portland.
In so many Airbnbs and rentals, I couldn’t sleep. The water wasn’t safe. The air wasn’t safe. The bedding and towels were full of chemicals. There was mold. Noise. Light. People above me. I would leave more depleted than when I arrived—and every time, I’d have to rewash all my clothes at home with vinegar and sunlight just to detox. It would take days, weeks and even months to detox from what should’ve been my detox.
But when I finally stay in a space that’s truly non-toxic…
I feel free.
I feel alive.
I feel seen.
I can breathe again.
That feeling shouldn’t be rare. It should be the norm.
Haven was born because the most basic human need—safe shelter—isn’t guaranteed when you’re chemically sensitive, living with mold illness, Lyme, cancer, or anything that requires healing. And yet, we still deserve to travel. To explore. To rest. To feel safe in a space we’ve paid for.
Haven is my offering to anyone who’s ever felt afraid to stay somewhere new. It’s a directory of curated, vetted, healing stays—so you don’t have to bring your air filter or worry about what’s in the walls or in the water. It’s a return to safety. It’s a permission slip to explore the world again, without fear.
You deserve that, unapologetically.
Meet founder, Alexis Gilbert!
I’ve felt what it’s like to go from a college athlete to barely being able to walk around the block. Eventually I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and PCOS — and what has followed was over a decade of research, healing and rebuilding my life from the ground up.
That journey brought me back to the basics: clean air, filtered water, organic home cooking, restorative sleep, herbal medicine, non-toxic fabrics, mld-safe housing and healing environments. And it showed me just how hard it is to access those basic human needs - especially when traveling.
My love for travel goes beyond want - it’s a true need. From watching flamenco in Spain to huge grizzly bears catching salmon at Brooks Falls Alaska, it lights me up. But to do it safely, I’ve had to carry my world with me - mattress protectors, sheets, towels, herbs, food packed in a backpack cooler. I’ve had to pray that I wouldn’t get sicker from my stays.
Then I asked myself: Why should it be this hard?
That question is why I created Haven - a curated network of truly non-toxic, healing spaces where people living with Lyme, mold illness, chronic conditions or chemical sensitivities can actually rest. Where they can feel empowered, not restricted. Where they don’t have to carry their home in a suitcase just to see the beauty of the world.
My vision is to create Havens all over the world - safe, vetted homes where people can travel without fear, and where healing isn’t just possible…it’s built in.
